1 inch fitting on pump leaking ford 2000 3 cyl

I have a 73 ford 3 cyl ford 2000 that has a hyd oil leak on the 1 inch nut on the pump. What is the best way to get the 1 inch cruch nut off hyd line on pump? can you take the line off and drive a punch in the open end to swell it so it quits leaking? I don"t have it apart yet but need to get ready for spring.Any help or advice would be great.

The only way to stop the 1/2 line on pump head from leaking is to replace the nut assembly. If has been replaced too many times may have cut small amount of end of tube so itll have new place to bite. I found new ones on messicks site the p/n is d6nnm922a but c7nnh856c will work to I think. Been while since changed one.

Believe it or not, the nut on the end of the solid hydraulic line is not captive on the line. First, go buy a replacement nut from your local Ford/New Holland dealer, then back the nut out of the pump and see how easy it is to replace the assembly.

I've done it successfully in the past, so I know that anyone can do it.

Our 2000 is doing the same thing. I talked to an old Ford mechanic and he said Ford had a fix for that. Instead of using a new "crunch" nut they cut a little off of the line and flared it. Then they used a different fitting in the pump and a different nut on the line. He said this was right from Ford. Does anybody know if that is correct? Was there a bulletin on this?
 
I have also had that problem before.
What I did is use a drift and expand the end of the pipe just a little. Clamped the line in a vise and tapped the tapered drift in with a hammer. Easy does it now, you don't want to expand it too much.
Put the new nut on first of course.
The nut is not cheap - like $40 or so from the dealer or on Ebay.
Another thought would be to add a thin washer - like a fender washer - to the end of the nut.
You might have to drill the ID and grind the OD of the washer to size it correctly.
I was going to try that the next time I encounter the problem to see if I could save the cost of the new nut.
That connection with the rubber packing nut was not the best idea. Some years they used a regular flared fitting there which was better.
