I recently bought a Ford 4600. The number D2-7006 is stamped on the right side of the tranny. I have been told that is the model year, but cannot find any information on that number. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

stamped or CAST IN

the model ID, sn and date code are stamped into the bellhousing flats.. aft of the starter. sometiems see more #'s on the other side as well.

a 4600 will be a 76+ machine.. perhaps 79 or 80.. not sure of the end of the range.. that's getting kind of 'new' for me.. :)

4600's (all x600's) were '76 through '81.
There will also be a foil tag under the hood, above the battery with model, serial, unit and other numbers stamped on it.(if the tag is still there)

If the foil sticker on the under side of the hood is no longer there, the model number, serial number and production code should still be stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing that face us, just aft of the starter.
