Gold under Blue Paint?

LOL you say gold under blue paint and I think the first thing to come to everyone's mind was a gold demonstrator.

As someone who likes clean and original and loves preserving the original...

No...

They will have to do a lot better than that for $11,500.

1. Seat is not original.
2. fender warning light broken off (how do you break that?!?! it's metal!)
3. muffler (the body is longer than it should be)
4. filthy and undetailed.

I mean, if you are asking a mint for a tractor, make sure the tractor is mint.

To start with.... the fenders are not original to that tractor. It should have the little crown fenders on it, not the 4600's arches. It's also either got an oil bath air cleaner (that was still an option) or the air filter is placed for a gasoline engine as the diesel dry element should have been clearly visible on the right front in the nose.

That said... I did see a 3600 with a loader sell for about that money perhaps 10 years ago. I thought that was crazy at the time but it was a jockey that bought it.

I can't say 100% for sure, but I think those fenders were available as an option on the 3600. This isn't the first 3600 I've seen with them by any means.

Rod,
Are you sure about the fenders? I have seen them on the 3600 just like that. There is probably literature floating around to confirm.

Good one John.
I too saw the title and thought huh?
Gold Demo where?
Price not sooo out of line if it was truely mint.
Show me another 'new' 40 hp tractor for $11K.
But not that one.
The 76 3600 I had was just about like that - ie flat tops and an oil bath.
What bothered me most about the one in the ad was the holes in the nose for headlights.
X600s had them either in the fenders like that one or mounted much lower in the nose.
Also note the misplaced steering line hanging down for some reason and the rerouted battery cable.
Mint is good.
Faux mint not so much.

They were perhaps an option but I've never seen them on a 3600. It's not that they'd be hard to change. Not beyond a dealers doing to change them either... if the little ones were needed on a 4600 at the time... just swap em out with this one and nobody will know the difference.

saw this on fleabay...

This is what I remember from back then. I know my dad sold many of these tractors. He also sold a lot of compact diesels. Somewhere I have a Ford incentive dollar. It looks like a dollar bill, but has a tractor in the middle and the back says something along the lines of $50 bonus per tractor sold during the incentive period. He won a sales award in 1979 for the most compact tractors sold in the month of July 1979. I have that award in my bathroom hahaha

Flat top fenders on a 3600. I have a 3600 I bought new in '80. In my area they were pretty common. Great for keeping mud from flying but not worth a flip for cutting hay with a sickle mower. Fender way too high to look over at the cutter bar. Don't ask me how I know.

Took me a minute to figure out the gold under the blue comment, too! And this from a guy who,one of his favorite sayings is,"Damn, they must think their tractor (or tractor parts)are Gold Plated" whenever I see expensive equipment.

have flat tops on my '79 3600. beleive i was told the tractor was stock. (told is the key word there).
