It's been a while, since I owned, and operated, a baler, getting
back, into hay. These balers, are at an agriculture auction sale
yard, and the sale, is tomorrow, so any help, or suggestions,
or advice, on these balers, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Bruce.

Yes, that makes more sence. 310, 315. Thanks for clarifying that, for me. Guess that's what you get, for not writing something down. LOL. I take if, the 315, is the newer model.

310 (1977-1981) & 315 (1976-1982) are nearly the same vintage; 315 is medium capacity, 310 is low capacity baler.

I've never had a 315, but have (or had) a 310, 311, and 570 (newer version of the 315). The 310 has a poorer sliding carriage plunger feeding system than the others that will cause issues eventually. The 310 is still a great baler that will give good service, but if given the choice go for a 311 or 315/316.

Brucehopf,
I had a NH310 bought new in 1979. Ran it until 2003. Very reliable! Most I did was 6300 hay and 1800 straw in one year. At the last used very little as I converted to round bales.
That said it all depends on how it was cared for. look for wear on the knotters and any place that rotated. You can tell a lot just looking at the wear on the drawbar!
One problem that was hard to find yet easy to fix once I figured it out was the adjustment for the plunger lock out. It would randomly snap a shear pin for no reason it seamed. Got that adjusted and all was great.
Also check the slip clutch. I had to rebuild that as there was some wear there. Of course I was running it with a 7000, so I was using a lot of HP on it.
With the 7000 I was able to pull a wagon behind it on my hilly ground.

We had a 276 before we bought our 565... I'd guess the 278 is in th esame time frame as the 276 - 1970's - but a higher capacity machine. Quick way to tell is if it holds more than 4 balls of twine, it's a high capacity machine.

I have used my Uncle's 275 NH baler, a nice baler to work with, got the job done.
I got talking to the owner, of the 278 baler, told me he had the new bushings, for the knoters, and you could see, it had a new clutch, put in, decent shape machine.
I was able to pick that one up, for $650.00, a song, compaired to the 310, which was well over, $1,200.00.
The 278, is a fairly big baler, a lot bigger, than the 275, or the 310, a little bigger, than the 315, that i had looked at, as well. It does hold 4 balls, of twine.
thanks for all the help, I appreciate all the information, and advice, I had recieved. Bruce.
