Ford 3-cylinder gas block

I am wanting to over haul a 2000 3-cylinder gas
engine. I have a bunch of spare parts engines. I
have 3 different engine blocks. All 3 have different
casting numbers. C5NE6015A, C9NN6015A, D0NN6015J.
These should all be gas blocks with 4.2" bore. I
assume each one is newer that the previous, but what
if any is the difference? Is one better than the
other? I don't care about correct. I just want a
good motor when I'm done. Thanks!

I don't know much about the serial numbers.
Others here can help you with that.
Those blocks are all pretty much the same - both gas and diesel are interchangeable even.
Personally I would use a later block.
They can easily be identified by the standard frost plugs and not the screw in type.
The newer block would allow you to use a cheap alternator and the later 3600 style tach cluster which is driven off the top of the oil pump - under the oil filter.
I have learned to never mess with one of those blocks without replacing the 4 soft/frost plugs in the back of the block and head.
They will leak on you and require a split to replace.
