641 temp gauge has quit. Noticed that it didn't move
saturday while pulling a heavy lawn aerator.
Any thing to look out for when switching it out?
I probably will use this opportunity to change the
coolant and replace the thermostat with the new one
that I have never gotten around to installing.
Can I get the bulb out past the battery box?

The original Ford gauge and most of the replacement gauges are mechanical style and the gauge, capillary tube and sensing bulb are all one unit. Remove the sensing bulb from the head and remove the 2 nuts off of the gauge retaining bracket under the dash then pull the entire unit out through the dash. Reassemble in the reverse order.
In order to get the sensing bulb nut tight enough to stop leaks you will most likely need to remove the battery tray in order to get a flare nut wrench on the nut. DO NOT use an open end wrench as you will certainly round off the corners of the nut.
