Can't find my earlier thread on this issue so we'll start over...
I've got a 65 3500 w/ loader and backhoe. It sat for better than 10 years due to getting water in the bores after a partial head job and I bought it as a project tractor from a man who had bought it broke and never actually seen it running. Did a full rebuild and it runs well but now I'm having trans problems in some gears.
Specifically, it does not not move properly in R2 and several of the fwd gears. I was advised on this board to do a pressure test and band adjustment as a first step and have finally completed that. The hydraulic pressures on all 3 servo circuits were within spec and bands 2 & 3 adjusted properly but band was did not.
When you tighten the band 1 adjusting screw it never gets tighten even screwing it in flush with the trans case surface. There is no resistance to tightening either. I surmise that either the band is broken or some sort of a connecting link is not in there correctly.
Anyone seen this before? Is it possible to get to the band / supports through the top of the case or would I have to pull and tear down the trans?
Would it cause any damage to use the trans with band 1 not working? I can't see how it would but want to make sure. I don't hear any rattling or abnormal noises that make me think it's rubbing or in a position to cause damage in there.
Thanks,
~John
