4830 Oil Volume

I have a 4830 Ford diesel (same engine as the 5610 and others with 256 cu. inch engines) and the manual I have says it takes 13 quarts of engine oil. I bought the tractor new in 1993 and have always run 8 quarts in it as the dipstick shows full at 8. (8&1/2 with filter) My son raised an interesting question: Is the book wrong or do I have the wrong dipstick? It's been a super workhorse for us and is approaching 2000 hours, using about one quart per 300 hours.
Which is right, book or dipstick?

The book is wrong... unless later ones actually had a Genesis engine. That I could see taking 12. Regardless, that is simply from a larger/deeper pan.
I'd go with 8 on this one.

Thanks, Rod. My son had kept awake several nights worrying about that. (I've done some really stupid things in my life....)
