Ford 6610 Lift Won't Lower (Intermittently)

Do any of you experts have experience with Ford 6610 hydraulics?

After a recent repair to the PTO (the PTO would not rotate) on a 1985 Ford 6610 the 3 point hitch intermittently won"t lower. The problem usually doesn"t happen unless the hitch has been raised for one minute and twenty seconds or longer. There is high pitched whine or hum with the hitch in the fully raised or the fully lowered positions but not with raising the hitch ( during the transition, while the hitch is moving).

To lower the hitch from the fully raised position, the tractor has to be shut off and restarted.

If the hitch raised partially and won"t lower... raising it any will allow it to be lowered.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Given you had PTO problems that likely left a pile of contamination in the oil.... I'd wager that the grit is causing problems with the unload valve in the priority pack. You can remove the pack (just under the seat) and clean all of the valves in solvent and inspect the spools and bores for scars... then reassemble. It'll probably work again for a while. Ultimately you'll need to get all of the crap out of the hydraulic system.
If this was a continous problem I might be inclined to think there's a problem with the linkage under the lift cover... but that's doubtfull given how it behaves.
The brakes aren't also coming apart and causing contamination?
