860 front axle

I have a 1957 860 with a Wagner Loader, with the all-purpose type front axle with power steering. Would I be better off installing a utility industrial type axle? Will I need different drag links and radius rods or will the ones I have work? When looking for parts what models will work? Any suggestions that you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Jim

Probably depends on what you plan to do with your loader. Plenty of folks have used loaders on these tractors with the standard axle for agricultural work and general landowners chores. Is there anything wrong with your existing axle assembly that would cause concern? If its OK, just be a little careful with it and it should be fine. If you still want to do it, others here can help answer your questions. Does it currently use a front mounted pump? -Will

I will be using it to move dirt and stone, to maintain a stone driveway and to level an area to build a garage. Yes I has a front pump.
Thanks for you information

I was hoping one of the experts here would chime in about the conversion, but let me say this...
I have a 801 with a Ford loader and the tractor has the utility industrial front axle. It's nice and heavy duty but non-adjustable. Looking at it, the radius rods do look a bit different than the ones used on the standard axle but I don't have one to compare it to so I'm not sure. The drag link looks the same to me. Unfortunately, my service manual covers the standard axle and the heavy duty industrial axle but not the utility industrial axle so I can't compare diagrams.
If you're serious about doing it, if you have the donor tractor, I would take everything including the drag links, axle support, pins, spindle and arms, etc. If you need to find the parts, call one of the salvage yards like Long Lane Tractor or Arthur's Tractors and talk to one of the experts there. They may have all of the parts and can tell you what you need exactly. -Will

I had the same idea a few years back and bought just the axle with spindles and hubs off Ebay. Then I realized that I also would need the drag links and radius rods. It would be a nice upgrade for a loader tractor, but I would try to get a complete non runner for parts to make sure to get everything needed to convert. I now have a front axle that I can't use since I did not get the drag links and radius rods.

Jim,
You would need the bolster, axle, radius rods and tie rods. The steering cylinders are slightly different too but but can be made to work.
If you found a complete setup that would be nice but these tractors have done loader work for many years with just a standard ag front end.
A rebuild - or two - on your current front end would keep you rolling for Many years and would likely be cheaper than converting.
Michford, I know where there is one of those axles and I think the radius rods are still there. You could modify your existing tie rods for the time being.
Tractor Rod has them

Thanks to all. I think that I will do a rebuild on the current axle.
Have a good weekend, sunny and close to 60 in Lonepine, PA. today
