Im working on the power steering on this tractor. The control valve in particlar. My question is how much does the valve need to rise and fall from the netrual position? I have putnew brgs. and seals in this steering box, but it still dones not work. Any help would be appreciated. Rodney

Give us some more info.
Have you had the control valve out of it and apart to clean it? Was the center spool sliding in the bore properly?
Did you follow the instructions about how tight to tighten the nut on the steering shaft?
Mine rases and lowers maaaybee a total of 11/64 to 3/16" from full left on the wheel to full right turn on the wheel.
What is your doing?

Yes I had it apart. Itis clean , spool valve works very good slides easily, and the brgs. are adjusted by the FORD repair manual. I havent neasured the travel up and down exactly, but I will checkit and see. Could the gears int steering box be worn enough to limit the up and down travel? Thanks Rodney

I measured the travel and came up with .080 north and .o85 thousands south. Could the pinions be worn enough to keep the spool from traveling enough? I am at a loss. Thanks Rodney

Is this the box where the nut must NOT be over tighten or with will not allow the spool to "float and move"?????

Alright guys you think I should loosen the nut? how much? I followed the instructions completly. The spring washer is flattened somewhat now. I will try to work on it tomorrow. Thanks Rodney
