Before you attempt to bypass the solenoid make sure the trans is in Neutral. Then confirm the trans is in Neutral. Then verify that the trans is in Neutral. Now that you know the trans is in Neutral you can bypass the solenoid by connecting one end of a jumper cable (red or black- it doesn't matter) to the battery terminal that is connected to one of the large solenoid posts. If your tractor is still 6V, Positive ground it will be the Negative post. If someone has done a 12V conversion it will probably be the Positive post. Then touch the other end of this same jumper cable to the post on the starter. Does it turn over?

This tractor has a 6 Volt System. I should have included that. Also the tractor has been used weekly and was parked for about six weeks. Went out to start it and all I got was the clicking of the solenoid.

Pull the starter off then use jumper cables and try to spin it over by hooking up a good ground to the frame of the starter then touch the other cable end to the stud for the solenoid and see if it spins over that way. If it does fair chance you have bad connections where your battery cables hook up or a poor ground. If it does not spin over take it to an auto parts store and let them check it most do it for free.
