Detmurds, there is a ring of bolts that secure the backing plate and outer axle bearing flange to the axle housing itself. These would have nuts on the inside. Do not remove these. This ring of bolts will have a smaller diameter than the lug bolts. Find the access hole in the brake backing plate that everyone has been pointing you to. Remove the cover. Align the broken lug bolt with this hole and drive it out through the hole. This is a hammer and punch job. drive the replacement in the same way. (If you happen to have an air hammer this makes life so much easier) Rotate the axle until all broken lug bolts have been replaced. With only 3 of 8 left, I might be suspicious of the integrity of these 3 and replace all 8 while I was at it. NOTE: It may be easier to do this with the brake drum removed.
