NAA clutch question

Had to rework head and govenor on my tractor. I have the front end disconnected from the tractor. When I was tightening the front crankshaft pully to 100" lbs the clutch would slip at about 40" lbs. Is that normal or do I need to replace clutch? I never noticed the clutch slipping before I tore the tractor down.

any advice appreciated.

I don't know at what torque level the clutch should slip. I'm guessing you wouldn't have that problem if the engine were still attached to the transmission and the tranny was in gear.

However, clutch parts are not that expensive and since you have it separated now, I would go ahead and replace the clutch anyway to avoid a future tractor split in the future. Don't forget to replace the transmission input shaft seal while it's apart.

So are you saying the clutch slips when you try to tighten up the crank shaft bolt as in you have it in gear and blocked??? If yes then yep you have a clutch problem since it should take hundreds of foot pounds to slip a clutch. Just think about how much force it takes to plow so you figure if it slips that easy you got clutch problems

Thanks Old and Jim. yes the tractor was in gear and engine attached. I split the tractor to day and ordered a clutch kit!

Charlie........here's BIG tip. STUFF some soft cotton rope down ennny sparkie hole and when the piston comes up to the top of the stroke, guess what??? Yer crankshaft won't turn and slip yer clutch and you can tighten yer front pulley to 100-ft/lbs. Simple, eh? ........Dell

When you reattached the motor Did you notice
where the clutch pedal wound up? Is it possible
the throwout bearing was pressing on the
3 fingers?
