Picked this 1971 Ford 5000 Diesel late last fall. I'm about 90% complete and can't wait to use it at camp this spring.
The pic of the pin with red paint on it is where a piece of it broke off and entered my left eye. I did have safety glasses on but no side shields.
Meeting with a cornea transplant Dr. on Feb 12th. Has anyone had a Cornea transplant and if so, how did it work out ? |

| Sorry to hear about your eye.
Tractor looks good. The 5000 is a good tractor and you should enjoy it.

| I live in Gwinn .
The 5000 runs great. It has 2500 hours on it and suffered from too much sitting. A pin on the lift arm was frozen. I heated it ,then attempted to knock it loose. A chunk came off and went under my glasses into my left eye.
It sure is hard having no depth perception. I feel like Mr Magoo sometimes.
The 5000 will be my dedicated backhoe tractor. I've got a Long 1200 3 Point backhoe which is a bit too big for my 861D or 4000 LCG .
Texas, You are right !!

| When I was 2 years old (almost 57 years ago) my Dad and Uncle were making flounder gigs and they were hammering on a steel rod to put a barb on it. I was walking by on my way to the house and a splinter of metal hit my left eye. It went all the way into the eye and stuck in the retina. I have been effectively blind in that eye ever since. It is sensitive to light and I have a tiny bit of vision (I can count fingers if I hold my hand real close) out of the left side of it. Take care of your eyes! |

| Pete- That's too bad about your eye, gosh how did that happen? I don't know about the cornea transplant or how successful they are, maybe someone else here knows. I hope the Dr is able to fix you up.
Nice job on the tractor, look like new. You can be really proud of that. Does it run as good as it looks? There's one for sale nearby here that looks about the same age, but has a loader. -Will |
