600 starter drive

Does anyone know where i can get detailed instuctions on replacing the starter drive on a 600 ford?I have not had any luck finding information on internet for 600 ford starter drive replacement.Any advice will be much appreciated!

Remove the starter. Push the big washer on the end of the shaft back against the spring exposing a pin that goes through the shaft. Knock the pin out if it doesn't fall out. Remove old bendix. Reverse instructions to install new bendix.

Texas! is right, but how to push the washer?

This is what I do. Find three bar clamps, the type used for wood working. Two long ones and a short one. Place the two long ones against the washer and around the back of the starter. Put them 180 degrees apart. Use the short clamp to keep the two long clamps on the washer. Slowly and evenly tighten the two long clamps. You have to move the washer less than 1/8 inch to get the pin off.

Reverse to install the new drive. Works like a champ for me. I use the newer types of clamps with squeeze grips, but the old bar clamps will work.

Hope that makes sense. Wish I had a picture

i believe dell has posted this. but open your vice jaws enough to allow the shaft to pass thru.. set the starter , washer ontot he jaws.. push down on the starter with your arm or upper body.. i think dell uses his armpit. then tap the now, non warded pin out..

save the 3 bar clamps for rube goldberg!
