What Is It?

Been finding these around the property, mostly nailed to trees where a previous had cross fencing for goats.
It has a number on it ( googled it ) but nothing came up. Number is:
3842872-GM124A.
It's not a turnbuckle, it has right hand threads on both ends.

IF memory serves me right, looks like upper control arm shaft for 70's/80's C10/C20 Chevy pick up.

You say you found a few around your property. Looks kinda like something a electrician/electrical person would use.

Just a guess...

If you google GM124A it shows results for Hubble electrical connectors which are nothing like the control arm cross shaft the OP posted. And according to the GM Parts History catalog posted on Wiki that part number was discontinued prior to Dec. 1990.

Of course it's a shaft for an upper control arm. The seven digit part number indicates an older GM part. Probably the previous owner of your property got a good deal on a bunch of reject parts and thought they were just the ticket for goat fencing.

Most are correct. It is a upper control arm pivot for an early chevrolet (early 50's) or (53-62 corvette). The threaded ends were for the screw on greaseable metal end bushings. Later on GM went to rubber bushings which slid on (no threads) and were retained with bolts and formed washers. Replaced many of those in a former life.
