Ford 2120 Clutch Issue

My 1990 2120 has about 2000hrs on it, and when I use gear range 1 or 2 the clutch enagages fine, but in range 3 it just slips or gradually grabs. Does this mean my clutch is about to quit totally? I graded the rock in my driveway last week just fine in range 2, third gear which seems confusing.

If the clutch is slipping, first check to see that it's adjusted properly. If it is, or is at the end of the adjustment, you're probably looking at a new clutch. Best to get it done, if that's the case - a slipping clutch generates a lot of heat, and can damage or ruin the pressure plate and flywheel.
Lower gears are less apt to slip, due to the inherent mechanical advantage.

Thanks for the advice. It may start slipping in the lower ranges soon, so I will check to see where the adjustment is and probably get it into the shop. I'm not up for major repairs anymore.

Agreed, adjust it to spec first, but it sure sounds like it is starting to fade and may be time to replace. The one I replaced about 15 years ago on a 2120 had somewhere around 2,500 hours of pretty tough loader use on the tractor. I'm sorry to say it was very pricey, I'm remembering the clutch and pressure plate kit was about $1,200 at the time, and I turned all the wrenches myself. I hope it's just adjustment. Good luck!
