7710 pto clutch wear

I have the 7710 split and pulled the pto clutch parts out this afternoon. The support shows quite a bit of wear and the housing is rough on the end as well. I"m assuming this accounts for the fluid leaking by. Here are the questions: Parts breakdown calls out three seal rings, but only two are shown on the picture. And only two visible on this housing. Has one seized inside its groove? Any thoughts? I"ve included a picture of the inside of the support and outside of the housing.

I think it's just the two.... the parts list calls for three in the listing but only shows two in the diagram... so I'd say the list is probably wrong. That happens sometimes. It's a while since I had one apart so I don't rightly remember how many is supposed to be there... but at this point I'd wager on two.
You want to inspect that drum very carefully if you intend to reuse it. Might be just as well off to simply replace it...

I could be wrong (and have been!) but I was thinking there were 3 seal rings. Best way to verify is to count the number of oil ports in the clutch drum between the washers. If there is only one (for clutch lockup pressure) then 2 seal rings get the job done. If there are two oil ports and galleys in the support and drum (for clutch lockup pressure and lube flow) then there must be 3 sealing rings to contain the two oil supplies.

Every 4 cylinder 10 series I ever worked on had 3. Just did a 7600 the other day that had 3. I've seen some older 8000s/8600s with only 2 though. Possibly a swap was made in the past?

Regardless, if you're going to re-use the drum, have it chucked up in a lathe and dig in there a little to see what comes out. I would think one should be able to at least see where the ring gap was.

Worn support horns are caused by improper adjustment of the locating screws on the LH side of the housing. Make sure it is properly set as per the book.

I'm leaning toward replacing the entire assembly. I can see a slightly different color in the metal but can't find a seam where the band would be split. The thought was that even if i could get it out, the sealing surfaces would likely be damaged. Lathe is a good idea. I only have a milling machine but could go over to the neighbors. Parting off or grooving tool would tell the tale. Should've added this is an English tractor. Would that make any difference?

From your pic it would appear something is there. If you're leaning towards replacing the drum anyway, put it in the lathe and see if you can dig it out. You may be able to clean it up easier than you think. You also might lean towards doing this after you find out how much a new housing is.

I don't think machines built in England were any different in this area.

Three seal rings. I looked it over again until I found what looked like the ring gap. Took a tiny punch and got the ring to move. Running against the support has rolled a burr in on top of the ring. I agree that it can likely be polished. Will price out parts and see. Clutch discs look good. Center bushing looks a little rough.
