9700 timing

Anyone have the static timing spec for the Simms inline pump? Looks like the pump's marks line up when 30 appears in the flywheel timing window. That seems reasonable, but since the pump shows signs of having been off before, I'd like to know where it should be.

30 is way too far advanced. 23 or 25 is what Ford originally called for, I can't recall which. 24 would be just fine. UNLESS you have internal wear inside your pump, which effectively retards timing even though your marks line up. The only way to see if that is going on is by spill timing.

The pump has plenty of internal wear, in fact it's now on it's way for a rebuild. I didn't think 30 degrees was too far out of line, since many of the AC engines from the sixties and seventies ran pumps with no advance mechanisms and most were timed from 28 to 32. If 24 is the correct spec, I can go with that when I put it back. Thanks
