6410 III Block heater connection - picture attatched

Hello Guys,

It has been a while since my last visit to this forum.
First off I would like to wish you all a very happy new year and that you all may stay happy and healthy !

Winter has come, also in Belgium. I bought this Calix heater from the internet for our Ford 6410 Generation 3 - rotative pump 4liter block. its a 1500Watt model , cold water is supposed to come in at the bottom and hot water should come out on the top.
My question is , where on the right hand side of my block should I connect the hoses ? also after i connected the hoses is there no danger that I changed the cooling loop of the block and that walter would circulate not enough or start circulating in the wrong way (through the heater) ?
Your professional help is much appreciated :)
Thanks in advance guys.
regards from Belgium,

Roel.

Those types of heaters are generally designed to go in line between the lower radiator outlet and the block, not between two connection on the block itself. The arrow should indicate the flow direction, which should be toward the block.

I'm not familiar with that model tractor, but if it's like most, the flow of the coolant is from the water pump pump out through the thermostat and upper hose into the radiator, and then from the lower hose out of the radiator and into the block.

You should be able to cut the lower radiator hose near the middle and connect the heater port where the arrow is pointing in your picture to the hose that goes to the block, and the other port on the heater to the hose that goes to the bottom of the radiator. To make it look nice, and to keep it from dragging and getting snagged on things, you'll probably want to cut some of the hose off and toss it away so the new setup isn't so long that it hangs way down.

That is not a lower radiator hose heater!! Its a tank heater and circulates coolant in the block. If you have a block drain, put a nipple there and hose to heater.Top hose can go into a port on the head or on the water manifold if set up that way.

Have to agree that it's not to be used in-line with the radiator hose. Suggest Google search for "how to install tank style block heater" for ideas. One thing I've heard is that these heaters have to be mounted lower than the point where the heated water enters the block/heater lines, so that a convective loop (hot water rises, cold down) takes place.

I always use the core plug heaters simply because it's easier.

On those engines, if you're going to use that heater... I'd probably pull the block drain out below the core plugs on the right side and use that for an inlet. The return I'd probably fit somewhere near the front of the head at the intake manifold. The cab heater return should be there.
I've still got my doubts if that would be as effective as you might like tho.
