I got Ford 601 workmaster, 3pt hitch won't do anything. pump making little bit noise. I took off pump gears look good. Any ideas what could be wrong? any way to test pump if has pressure or pumping? Any ideas to look for would be appreciated. Thanks

ears in the hydraulic pump?? Doesn't sound like any 601 pump I know of.

Lets see if we can figure out what your really saying. So you removed the whole pump off the side of the engine and you see a gear right??? If yes that gear almost never goes bad but the parts it drives does. Could be as simple as needing to prime it. Or you could have a hyd line bad inside the transmission etc.

ditto what the others said. need more info.

with engine running.. pump is turning.. you should get oil at the pip plug on the hyd cover.

may be as simple as a stuck unloader valve.

Pump bolts on side motor and runs off flywheel. Pulled pump off, looks good,.. primed pump and put it back on still nothing works. I just got tractor the way it is so have no idea how it happened of started to go bad. Was told could be O rings on valve? or O rings where the cast tube bolts to rear end under the tractor? Was hopeing be easy fix with out alot of taking apart.. There is a plug on top pump, guessing for priming? can a guage be put in there and see if pressure for the pump to be working for sure? Thanks for any help..

auge at that point is OK, once you realize that the pressure is normal at as little as 40PSI and as high as 2000, depending on 3 point load & touch control command position. Better to remove plug & crank engine over to see if oil comes out. If not apply air compressor blow gun to hydraulic dipstick hole and see if you can make pump prime.
P.S. pump is driven off of a gear on rear of cam shaft, not off of flywheel.

First as JMOR said the pump runs off the cam shaft and is internal as for oiling that gear drive. The pipe plug on the pump is for priming the pump. As for a pressure gauge there is a test port on the flat plate under the seat. Sounds like one of the best things you can do is buy a FO-20 IT manual so you have a better idea what things are

get an fo-20 service manual.. you are shooting in the dark... pump runs off CAM.. not ring gear..

if ther unloader is stuck.. you will not be able to pressure test her yet, as she will be constantly dumping oil to sump till you get her to move.

might be as simple as pulling top cover and manually manipulating and inspecting parts... etc..

I have had similar trouble with my 981. I take the pipe plug out of the pump and pour in oil. Then start the tractor and loosen the pipe plug until oil runs out the plug. Once that happens tighten the plug back up. I then usually have to help the three point arms a couple of times as it is lifting to get all of the air out but that usually fixes it.

Thanks, Took out plug while running, oil came out shortly there after and 3 pt started moving. tightened plug and they raised. Couldn't run tractor to long right now, but think that might been the problem. Thanks again

Hopefully, that is a permanent fix for you. After mine sits for awile I have to do it again. Some seal somewhere is not working properly.
