I know this is ford country.. but crosspostingthis here as i know most of us own a few different flavors.

I was just about to roll a 960wfe into the shop.. but this is taking precidence as it is needed for work.

got a 2240 and sparks and metal shavings just started blowing out the inspection covers on the left ahead of your feet :)

I've had her split in the rear before to do the independtent pto clutch packs.

clutch is now out.. i'm kinda thinking seized TO bearing?

any other ideas. just rolled it into shop to start taking stuff off in prep for a split..

she split pretty easy.

2 fingers completely gone.. 3rd mostly gon. TO bearing was nothing but the holder.. shafts are of.. ring gear ok.. flywheel needs surfacing.. need PP, disc ( media coming off ) tob and pilot bushing.

yt don't lis tthe parts.. need an idea for good supplier for JD parts.

local dealer wants 1500$ I coult have it back together by dinner if i had all the parts.. guess that ain't happening. :)

I was going to guess catastrophic failure of the PP, but not a JD expert so I didn't want to put an uneducated post out there.

Wow! Is it a super cheapskate owner in denial? or employees that aren't paid enough to pay attention?

(quoted from post at 18:15:16 01/15/13) um.. I'm not follow at all.. i have no idea what you are asking?.

"needed for work" I took to mean that it belongs to your employer and that he needed you to fix it quickly, and that you had not been the operator.

ahh, correct. I wasn't the operator.. I'm the wrench turner right now.

we have no mechanic at work right now.. and the boss knows I'm the guy that fixes tractors.. so lately I've been the 'tool truck driver'. :)

the least 3 times I'vee fixed this tractor it was operator abuse. most expensive one was running too long a telescoping pto shaft and mashing the bearing carrier and tractor peo shaft into the rear cetner hosuing eating the pto clutch and some small doodads.. rear bearing carrier.. etc. pure operator abuse.

this damage? looks like the TO bearing rusted and froze. this one showed no grease zerk on it like I had expected.. it's not the first clutch it's had.. but I bet it's been 20 ys since it's last one.( and I didn't install that one )

and yeah.. the boss's hat flew off his head when i told him what I'd found for prices..

A&i sells the same clutch and pressure plate as Deere. A&i owns auburn and Rockford clutch. Some people don"t like a&i but use there clutches all the time.

On the TOB with the zerk, my 2550 (a manheim/dubuque like the 2440) shows a serial split on that, earlier without and later with. On replacement, was told by a parts guy it depends on whether there was NOS still available with the old style w/o zerk on what you got for replacement.

Don't know if it is true or not, but that is what they told me when I went looking for the zerk. Mine has a replacement clutch and no zerk.

on edit - or it could be the other way around - according to TX Jim in the related post on the JD forum. Seems like a good idea.

Soundguy,
I just replaced all of that in my 2355. The zerk only lubes the TOB where it slides back and forth, not the bearing itself. I got all the parts through Rock valley tractor parts(Iowa?). Rebuilt JD parts and very good quality and cheapest place I couln find. Tractor was a cake job to split and put back together, wish all were that easy!

you are right.. it was a breeze to split. I had her rolled apart in about 45m. most of the time was them hyd lines ont he right side.. and just the draglink on the left. did find a piece of filter in the check ball / spring on one of the lines on the left side. glad I found that. it was preventing the check ball from seating..
