Really nice Tractor. I hope you feel guilty for a long time buying it that cheap I know I would. But just like Me you will get over it. Please post pictures and let us know how it goes as you work on it. FYI. Dustin Knows what he is talking about. Fellow Moron, Ron

Using the codes from John Smith instead of the 65 and later codes it can make sense other than he doesn't have the G listed.

2=134
1=Ind. and Ag after 1963
11=Offset
1=4 speed with PTO
G=Gas ?

The model code would seem to match your tractor this way even though many of us haven't seen those tractors built that late. Just goes to show that we can all learn from each other if we continue to follow through with gathering information to help each other.

Nice find by the way!

weird.

The workers knew of or were told to stamp -D for diesel if it was a diesel like on the older models and decided they should put -G for gas if it was a gas on this batch.

No, there are date codes cast into many of the parts but they are often different as they identify when that part was cast and the number stamped in the transmission is the date the tractor was assembled.

You could very well have a 1966 2000 Offset. I have 2 late 1965 2000 diesel offsets. Most people believe that the 4 cylinders were only built from late 62-64. Most all pieces on the tractors have date codes. Try to look underneath the generator in the lower corner of the engine block and give us that code. Tony Jacobs is also very knowledgable on the production dates of these tractors as well. I have had several conversations with him about the late production dates and if I remember correctly, he has some original paperwork dating from 1966 about the Offsets still being offered. His contact info is on here, just search for it, or email me and I will give it to you.

You may be right Larry, if someone was demanding enough and was wiling to pay enough, they might have built a 4 cylinder 2000 offset in 1966 as a special order.

For a 4 cylinder 2000, that's a very late 1964 serial number, maybe even into 1965, as they did still make the 4 cylinder models into 1965, even though they were still called "1964" models. So if it was made on the same assembly line as the 3 cylinders, after they had started making the 3 cylinders, then maybe the person that was stamping the numbers got confused and stamped 3 numbers on that one instead of 2, but that still doesn't explain the G at the end of the model number, or the date code that appears to be a 1966 code, but 21111 would be a 1963 and newer 2000 offset with a 4 speed transmission and non-live PTO. Is that the transmission that it has?
Another possibility for the 3 numbers is that the transmission was replaced at some point and that date code was the date that the replacement transmission was made, and whoever stamped it at the dealership when the transmission was replaced stamped the G at the end of the model number by mistake.

I'm going to think outside the box here. Is it possible that Ford built that 2000 Offset into 1966 or later? The third set of numbers in that photo surely indicates a build date of 28th of September 1966 as has been stated. That S/N is high enough to be consistent with that build date.

I have a 4 cylinder 4000 that was built in June of 1965. Without looking, I think its S/N is 64***.
Ford did some inconsistent things in those days, such as putting leftover red parts on my 602 cornpicker that was mostly blue.
I have no explanation for the G suffix on the model number. Only a guess that someone decided if it needed a D suffix for diesel maybe a few of them needed a G suffix for gasoline?????

Not at all. 74596 would be consistent with the continuation of the 4 cylinder models that were classified as 63-64 models. Remember the serial numbers on the 6000 were also part of this series, and if memory serves it was built into 1967.

The later thousand series that began as '65 models had a different serial number sequence.

If 21111G is correct, then it would be a 3 cylinder 200 series

2 = 1965-1968 2000 series

first 11 = Low Center of Gravity chassis

Next 1 = diesel engine

Next 1 = No PTO

G = 4x4 manual reversing transmission

And the serial number would be incomplete. 74596 looks like part of a '65-'75 serial number Should be a letter followed by 6 numbers.
The date code looks to be a '65-'75 type as well. 6J28 = September 28, 1966

The earlier 4 cylinder 2000 series only had 2 numbers stamped on the flat spot, so it is not likely a 4 cylinder 2000, but who knows who might have stamped something on there at some point.

We really need to ask daverd4 - Is this a 3 or 4 cylinder tractor? Can you post some pictures?
