Been working on a 900 Ford the past couple of days. It's coming together well, but with its lessons learned along the way. Bought a new manifold for it & installed it. The tractor wouldn't even start with it on. Odd, Right? I fixed te original manifold & put it on. The tractor fired right up. After comparing the new with the used, the casing inside the new manifold was a very course casting on the inside, I guess causing it not to flow smoothly. Amazing the there are junk new parts out there.

I agree. Jut check out all of the wonderful "turbulence/vortex" inducing snake oil people are selling on fleabay. If turbulence in the intake would keep an engine from running, then those sellers would have 100% negative feedback.

I guarantee you that you have not found the source of it not running with 'rough' manifold!!!!

Wouldn't the engine be labored to create power? Or does it not create enough vacuum to affect its performance?

I would have to agree with sound ruff should not stop it from running. I would do a rotto rooter test and make sure you can run a wire or other such thing from the carb bolt on flange to each and every one of the intake ends. I would also try a air test so as to make sure you do not have an exhaust and intake cross over

i doubt a simple roughness would cause issue.. but investivate deeper. I have heard of ports 100% blocked..
