Ford 2000 Offset Steering Box

Looking at a Ford 2000 Offset that the owner said the steering box had been taken apart. Said all the parts are there but I'm not sure if I could tell by looking. If there not all there how hard is it going to be to find them?

Dave you definitely should forget about that 2000. It will just be a money pit and still worth nothing. Could you give me the owners location and 'phone number?

(quoted from post at 10:16:55 01/07/13) LOL I must have lost the contact info

It looks like you really couldn't go far wrong at $1500 just because it looks so straight. Chances are that the steering box was off the shelf from a car or truck of the time. Seeing the snow I was thinking of the possibility that it may be in my part of the country.

Well I drove 100 miles to find a parts tractor if anyone is looking for one. Motor has not run in a long time, no belt on it to see if it was stuck, rust in gas tank, clutch is out, 3pt arms are missing, one shot rear tire, car tires on the front, not the right rims, steering box is warn, tie rods didn't look right, steering wheel shot, paint looks way better in the pictures.
Anyone need a parts tractor let me know it's in Yakima WA

(quoted from post at 00:12:58 01/08/13) Well I just bought it for $575
That doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me.
They're not cheap, if you can find one, in my area.
Congrats!

Great deal just don't know where to start looking for parts. Any help with that would be great. Don't think I'll find many parts in the Pacfic Northwest. Think I saw somewhere there was more of them in the SE.

if the tie rod ends are functional.. don't bother changing them untill you have a good pair in your hand. they are harder to find.

clutch will be easy..

3pt lift cover innards are normal.. it's just in a raised sump with a drain tube and different hyds tap.

i'd focus on the steering box

motor, if gas is a standard 134.. parts available.

clutch, easy.

3pt arms.. can be made or modified.

tie rods? if working.. forget for now.

car tires? leave em till last if they hold air.

bad rear? look for a matching used one.

rims? find matching when you can.

rusty tank? clean, coat or replace.

steering wheel? not a problem..

steering box..... that's the one I'd put my effort into.... the rest of the items are routine and realitively non issues.

The steering box was still together when I was there yesterday didn't have the right steering wheel on so it just slipped. Hard to feel how much play was in the box. When he told me the box had been taken apart he didn't know what he was talking about they took the rear hood support off my guess was they thought they could find out why the clutch peddle was stuck down. When that didn't work they just left it off. I think the hard part will be finding the correct lift arms the bottom arms look the same as any ford but the lift arms being so much longer may be hard to come by. I'm going up and haul it home on saturday and will have more time to look it over.

considering the steering box is no where near the dash on an offset.. I'm not sure what the owner was talking baout. the box is nestled up front.. witht he steering shaft going to it down the side of the tractor thru a funny shaped support frame.

Yes thats why I say he didn't have a clue. That rear hood support sits either under or over the steering shaft support where the steering box would sit on a say 850. I don't think he knew where the steering box even was.The way he came across to me was he just thought it was some wierd Ford the he didn't want to deal with.

I agree but I guess I'm glad thats why he let it go for $575. You can see that rear hood support that he thought was part of the steering box is sitting back by the seat in the picture

looks like a great project for me.

seller must be a 100% moron if he can't follow the steering shaft with his eyes. :)
