I took the motor on my 3400 apart today - head gasket leak. Took oil pan off also to check on the lower end. Motor was rebuilt at some point. It has sleeves in it with the standard 4.2" bore. Were these motors sleeved from the factory or was this done at the rebuild? Did Ford offer sleeves or are they aftermarket? Incase I ever want to replace them. Thanks

That engine was not sleeved from the factory.
So it had to be sleeved when it was rebuilt which is a good sign that they did it right.
Sleeves are available both OEM and aftermarket so it was probably up to the rebuilder where they bought them from.
Fun dropping the pan on that tractor isn't it?
You pretty much have to pull the whole front end off the tractor because of the pan to bolster bolts. Much easier to do on it's ag sister the 3000 with the steel pan.

Some were sleeved from the factory... Basically, if they had a block that didn't machine true and clean the first time around they'd overbore and sleeve to clean it up rather than throw it back into the melting pot...
IIRC, those engines were denoted by a diamond in front of the engine serial number.
