I have plenty of stock 9600 parts for sale, wheels too. Why would anybody pay $1,100 for a stock simms pump?

Check to make sure the PTO shaft is not turning with the PTO lever in the off position. If it is then the PTO break band is broken.

Make sure the dual power shifts without hesitation.
Get a box of ear plugs if you do buy it

After market PTO shafts can be had for a lot less than $500.

Check engine blow by if its hard to start. Before you start it crack open the oil pan drain plug and check for antifreeze. If there is antifreeze most likely the block is perforated in a cylinder wall.

Pull out the 1/8" pipe plug on the intake manifold. It is near the back on the bottom of the manifold. If there is oil on it it is a good indication the turbo is about to puke.

There is a 13mm plug on the bottom of the injector pump, on the forward end. Pull this plug and see what comes out. If it hasn't been serviced for a long time, it will be pure Diesel fuel, or water. If water comes out, that pump is pretty much a roll of the dice. I had one done about 10 years ago and it was 1100.00. Also check the rear wheel casting where it is wedged against the axle. This can be readily seen from the outside. If it was run with the U-bolt loose, the wedge-shape of the axle will not fit cleanly into the wedge portion of the wheel. The axle will be O.K., but nothing can be done about this slop except to change the wheel. Lastly, I have heard of incidents where a customer buys a tractor, then finds out later the weights don't come with it. Make sure you get two PTO shafts with it, whether you use 1000 rpm or not. Don't let him slide on this one. They're about $600 new. If it has a tool box, look in there and make sure everything in there goes with the tractor.
