power steering leak

I noticed the other day that there was some fluid running out of the steering stem and down over the dash of my 801. How would i go by fixing this and what parts or seals will i need.

It's a common problem on those tractors.
The good news is it's not expensive to pull the upper part of the column and replace the upper seal - part # 44. Your dealer should have one in stock for about $13.
The bad news is it's an all day Saturday job to pull the tin off to get at it.
I generally replace the upper oring #32 while I'm in there too. Dealer should have that too for a couple of bucks.

Darrell, I did this job on my 3400. Similar parts involved. On mine I installed a "speedi-sleeve" which is a thin stainless steel sleeve that is a tight fit to the steering shaft. The purpose is to provide a smooth surface for the new seal to ride on. If your shaft is pitted with rust, it will tear up your new seal and your leak will come back. My speedi-sleeve came with the seal also. The sleeve is not hard to install and worth it if it saves you doing it all over again. You may not need it, but check the shaft carefully for pitting once you get things apart.
