Ford 3000 radiator HELP!

Im a tractor newby and need some help. I put fluid and half a
bottle of bars leaks into my radiator b/c of a small leak. I cranked
it up and about 4 minutes later a small hose popped loose. I dont
know what the hose is called but it starts at the radiator cap and
goes down the right side of the radiator. I haven't removed the
front to get a real good look at it yet. Has anyone had this problem
before?
 
That small hose is an overflow tube for the radiator. Ford radiators will typically release coolant until the fluid level is down just above the core. And they work fine after the equilibrium level is achieved. And there"s no point to topping it up again, as it will waste coolant.

The tube doesn"t normally blow off. Your overflow tube may be plugged. Check it out.
 
Thanks sixbales. I pulled the top of the overflow tube off and blew as hard as I could thru it. I can't tell if it was plugged but if it was, its not anymore.
My operator's manual said that if the fluid level is more than an inch below the bottom of the filler neck to add more fluid. I topped it off b/c I looked in there and didn't see any fluid. Could that be b/c equilibrium was achieved? Should I drain a little fluid out before starting it up again? Also, where does the bottom of the overflow tube connect?

as 6bals said. it's an overflow and must have been plugged.

bars leaks is marginal voodoo bandaid repair.

it MAY work now.. but will likely let you down when field mowing one day and you don't notice the steam till the engine seizes...

rads are not astronmically expensive to repair.. engines are..

your call.
 
You should be able to see fluid above the core when equilibrium is reached. If it is below the top of the core, you've got a leak.

if you add fluid.. it will just blow more out till it is happy.

bottom of tube connects to atmosphere...
 
Got it. THanks sixbales and soundguy. Im gona keep an eye out for a used radiator that dont leak. Appreciate yalls input. This website is the best.
