NAA 12 v solenoid

Solenoid went on my NAA with a 12 volt conversion. Tractor is
presently negative ground. Old solenoid (3 post) looks like it
was triggered by going to ground through the safety starter
switch. Replacement (4 post) is triggered by providing 12 volts
to the "s" terminal and apparently grounds through the
housing. Did Napa sell me the wrong solenoid?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you got the wrong one. Don't worry about the voltage of the solenoid. The 6V isolated solenoid will work fine on 12V. It might actually just be easier to get a 6V isolated solenoid from a NewHolland dealer than track the right one down in the NAPA system... What you need is an isolated coil type solenoid that uses 3 posts and is triggered by ground... as opposed to one that is 3 pole and triggered by line voltage.

If you wish you could use the one you have... just use a cube relay to control the solenoid with the relay wired hot and it's control finding it's ground in the push switch.

napa st 541 is a 12v 4 post. 1 small post to key power.. 1 small post to thumb switch

napa st53 is a 6c 3 terminal...

both work.. I personally like the 6v stuff.. :)

Thank you all very much. I found another relay in the garage. It had a positive and a negative "small" post. I ran a shunt from the heavy 12 volt lug to the positive trigger and connected the wire from the starter button to the negative side of the trigger. problem solved!

(quoted from post at 18:01:12 01/04/13) napa st 541 is a 12v 4 post. 1 small post to key power.. 1 small post to thumb switch

The ST541 is 6 volt. The ST542 is the 12 volt version of the same solenoid.

yeah, that's correct.

541 is 6.. 542 is 12.. both 4444 ...

i guess if i don't make any typo's life won't be fun anymore. :)
