'55 650 exhaust manifold

Hey all, Happy New Year!!
The bronzed up exhaust/intake manifold on my "55 Ford 650 finally cracked. I ordered a new one (EAE-9425-D) and the carb holes are spread too wide. Does anyone have an idea if there is a good place to get a manifold that doesn"t require messing around with? It seems when a part is shown that fits 90000 different models, there are sure to be some glitches.

it's simply a universal manifold to fit the narow and wide spaced carb bolt patterns...

just file the holes into slots a lil more.

grey iron is terribly hard to drill or file.

I had to slot my 660 manifold when i changed carbs... took all of 5 minutes.

this can be an easy fix. no need to complicate it and spend more time and $$$

All of the aftermarket manifolds are universal fit models. You will likely also find that the installled vertical positioning of the carburetor does not quite match the air tube.

Buy a good used one if you want an OEM fit.

I noticed that. The piping was thicker too, which made getting a socket on the interior impossible, so forget about using a torque wrench. There really isn"t that much meat on the interior to cut into it much. I may try a plate with studs up and screws down. More work but the vertical position will be better aligned and I won"t be chopping up the metal.

You"re right as usual soundguy. There is enough meat there to cut away to slip the nuts on, but the spacer idea doesn"t really have enough room without increasing the slots outward. Otherwise the studs to the manifold would interfere with the screws to the carb. I don"t have anything trustworthy to cut the manifold so off to the machinist they go.

It"s never as easy as you want it to be. Such is life!

that manifold cuts remarkably easy. a flat file will square outr some area for nuts.. and a rat tail will make slots.

a die grinder stone or bur will too. that grey iron is super soft.

one of those drill bits with the 'teeth' onthe side will do it.. that's wht I did the one on my 660 with.
