I am about to change the leaking timing cover gasket and the front crankshaft seal on my ford 3000 diesel and is there a special puller or tool to put the balancer? Thanks |

| Rod is right, my 68 3000 diesel engine has only a cast pulley, it has the threaded holes for the pump drive too.
I would not want to use a jaw puller on it as it is pretty thin, but the other style of puller would work just fine pulling on the threaded holes.

| | If it's got a harmonic balance it's the first one I've seen. Should have a plain old simple cast steel pulley. Put a 2 or 3 jay gear puller on it and have at it. Rod |

| Thanks for the replys, I guess the jaw puller make work better since my harmonic balancer puller has a smaller bolt pattern than the bolt hole pattern in the front pulley. |

| Do NOT pull on the outside edge. It might break. |

| If it is in fact a true balancer then a regular gear type puller can break the pulley in two |

| Yes you need a puller to get get off. You can usually rent one from a parts store. Take the big bolt out the center and then install the bolt without the washer to protect the threads in the end of the crank. |

| What sort of engine is that? Funny to see a damper at the starter drive? |

| It is a Covair aircraft motor that the owner added a flexplate (flywheel) and starter off a Nissan Sentra to the front of the motor to make it electric start. The prop is on the back end of the motor. |

| I own 2 of those and both cost me less then $10 each. Have had one of them for a couple decades and got the newer one just a few years ago and still cost about the same. |

| I cn not say for sure on that one since I have not messed with it but yes there is a harmonic balancer puller tool made for the ones on cars and trucks so it may also work on that tractor if the pulley has the bolt holes in it. They cost less then $10 or at least the last one I go did. It works on steering wheels also |

| Pretty simple task really. Remove the 3/4" bolt and have at it with a gear puller.
