feelin' ornery today!

#1 make sure the transmission lock in has not gotten kick to free wheel which I have seen happen. Next check that the fluid level is as it should be. If both are as they should be hold tight to your back pocket because it may start you hurt very very bad very fast

Hey Larry,

[size=18:9e2b35a899]I'm guessing just ornery !! [/size:9e2b35a899] :D

You guys probably got hit pretty good didn't you? We got 2"-4" down towards St. Joseph with 30-50 mph winds. Made for a tense drive to work, more vehicles off the road than on  . Most trouble was due to the combination of "first snow" (dumb drivers), poor, poor visibility (25 feet or less at times) and pretty slick conditions. They hadn't hardly touched the hwy or interstate. I-29 was pretty much one lane and then cars and tractor trailers all over. Both northbound and southbound I-29 were closed for a few hours this morning to clean up all the stuck vehicles.

I left home around 5:50 am and got to work around 7:30 am, typically a 35 minute drive. If I had known the conditions of the roads (weren't bad up home), I never would have come in this morning. It was difficult enough I felt I had a better chance of pushing on than stopping somewhere to try and turn around. Went through about an 18" - 24" deep drift (in my 95' Geo Prizm  ) getting on the interstate. If I'd have booged down or spun out, I would have ruined a LOT more days, as I wouldn't have been easy to go around. At any rate I used my head and more than anything, got really lucky.

Well! This is fun! But ain't none of ya even hinted at it yet . . . except maybe Chris with his comment about ornery.

For the one who made a suggestion about a crashbox not lookin' bad . . . that wouldn't make things any better . . . might even make 'em worse!

Ok so bet it is a diesel and due to the weather you can not get to poor old thing to start up for you so yep would not move then.

Well,

Not a lot to go on and somebody aleady guessed "stuck", so, how about:

1) fuel problem (diesel gelling, etc.) OR

2) real engine problem of some type?

Did you at least get her out in the snow, or was she dead where she was sitting? I'm guessing it's not a BIG problem, since you've made a game out of it.

Chris

It's funny how we all assume a problem with the tractor not moving is automatically related to the S-O-S.... LOL.

Guess that says a lot about what many of us think about the SOS transmission doesn't it???

We have a winner! NWMO with his number 2 suggestion of a real engie problem is right on. The engine in this tractor (256 c.i. diesel) spun a rod or a main some time ago . . . and I have not disassembled it to see what it takes to repair it yet.

And yes . . . I do know it's a spun bearing because of some of the noises it was making (screeching, hammering, etc.) and the fluctuation on the hydraulic oil pressure gauge that I plumbed into the pressure switch port on the block.

Yep . . . but there are a few of us who know better! 8)

Yes Yes!!!! My 4000 was pushing snow at 4 AM--- good part was my son was on it 30 miles from me and I was sleepin'

Do not know about the know better since most I have run into have not worked as they should be then it could well be that the person who had them also did not know how or what to do to them to make sure they did work as they should have
