Hyd. fluid question 2.

I have a post below about which fluid to use in my 650.

I returned the Ford 90WT hyd fluid and Tractor Supply had the following:

Travellers Premium Universal tractor trans/hydraulic fluid, meets Ford 134D specs. 2 gallons/$19.95.

Travelers 80/90wt GL5 Gear Lubricant 2gal./$29.95

Which should I buy? Thanks!
 
Either one will work just fine in both the transmission and rear end but the 80W90 is not good for the hyd system. The reason many of us say to use the UTF is because if you have bad seals between the transmission or the rear end and the oil gets into the hyd you do not have to worry about slow hyds. Plus it is cheaper to buy the UTF
 
You will receive many opinion's on that issue. The UTF is the most popular, in any compartment where the fluid is hydraulic and lubrication. The older tractors with seperate gear compartments, I use the 80/90, it's less likely to find avenue's of escape.
 
You are making a VERY EASY issue, VERY difficult.

the hyds, rear end, and tranny are all seperate sumps.

the hyds needs a utf / hydraulic fluid.

the tranny and rear end, need a utf or gear oil. best gear oil is a modern 80w90 gl4/gl5.. commonly available.

thus.. you can use UTF in all 3 sumps.

if you are in the arctic area, use the utf.

if your inner hyds to diffy seals leak.. use the utf.. etc..

I'd go for the 80W-90
 
I am so use to how an 8N works that I have overlooked the 3 compartments in the 650 rear end!
I now understand where you should use gear oil and
where you should use hydraulic fluid. Thanks for the help!
