the best way to figure out what's wrong is to actually DIAGNOSE it.

1, it helps us to know 2 cyl or 4. the 4 have a very basic fuel system.. the 3 are much mroe complicated with a pump, different routing and a cantankerous carb.

past that.

at moment of death and during restart attempts when it won't start. does it have spark? good spark?

if yes.. move on to fuel.. specifically fuel flow.. they won't run with an empty carb.

if it don't have spark.. hotwire coil.. if nada still.. check points, feel coil.. .. use ohm meter on connections with power unhooked to look for shorts, and if points open and close. check continuity on secondary and primary of coil.. check dizzy feed thur insulator.. make sure condensor is not shorting ( rare ) but happens.

ok.. 3 cyl. had no spark.

you changed coil.

then you say no start.. but you don't say if it had spark and did not start.. or did not have spark. if it had spark but no start.. look at fuel. if it did not have spark, and setting helps, then look at ignition switch. which is why i said to hotwire coil... it bypasses ignition switch.

go back and do the checks again, as I mentioned in my first post.

you have to be systamatic in troubleshooting. you can't take a list of 6 things, pick the 2 out you like, and forget the rest.

all or nada...

i hope / think everybody knows by now that I don't have a computer and instead get connectivity from small mobile devices that don't have real keyboards.

typo's are gonna happen.

I did not know that. How would I or everybody know that?

And yes . . . I knew it was a typo . . . but still think it's funny!

I've mentioned it many, many, many times over the last couple years.

My 'largest' machine is a netbook.. not even a large netbook.. it's one of the subcompact 'thin' ones about the size of a paperback book. Otherwise i'm on an iphone or similar other tablet or handheld device. None with real keyboards or mouse.. just the funny touch sensitive stuff. Even at 'work' our devices are ipads or that netbook i carry.

3 or 4 cylinder 4000?
My first thought would be the ignition switch, if it's a 4-cylinder. Could also be a coil going bad, on either model.
