Will the serial # on a older 4000 tell if it has a two stage clutch, Tractor looks like the 800 series. It is somewhere between 1961 and 1963 I believe. Tractor is Not running. Thanks.

(quoted from post at 21:06:04 12/17/12) Top # reads 41202
Bottom # reads 53445
Can you tell from these #s
I dug this out of the archives, hope it helps.
"4---- indicates 172" engine; -1--- indicates AG 63 or later;
--20- indicates All Purpose; ----2 indicates 5 Speed Live PTO"

(quoted from post at 21:22:06 12/17/12) Great info, any idea on the bottom # ???
1964 started with SN 38931, so I would think that makes yours a '64.
Someone will correct me if that is not right.

I don't believe any of the 5 speed early thousand series had a single clutch. They were all live PTO models with 2 stage clutch.
