jubilee hydraulic pump question

the last few days i have noticed a very small amount of bubbly hydraulic fluid seeping from a allen-head plug bolt on top of the jubilee's hydraulic pump, this pump is the replacement rotary pump, not the original piston pump, [ i think i got that right] anyway heres the scene, i cant really find out much as to just what this plug is or does, before i pull it out and put some Teflon tape on it to stop the seepage and mess something up, i thought i would ask here and see if thats ok to do,just in case this is some kind of a overload protection or something , and if somebody knows just what that plug is/does, now the jubes job description has changed in the last few weeks, it now carries a 3point carryall, all steel about 3 by 4 feet square, im not sure what brand it is as i dug it up here on the farm about 10 years ago by accident, fixed it and put it to use, its now carrying my feed gear around twice a day which consist mainly of 4 bales of hay[ 2 wire square bales] and 4, 5 gal buckets of oats and other feed grains and additives, the total weight i recon is around 6 or 700 lbs, when parked i lower the carry all and dont leave it hanging in the air on the 3 point hitch any ideas??

You shouldn't need teflon, but it can be used. I'd just try to tighten it a little. It is nothing more than a plug.

nless you have a pump of some unknown type that is neither of those that came on the Jubilee/NAA, then it sounds like you have a piston pump & not the vane pump. If that is the case, then the plug you mention is on the pump output. OK to take it out and use a good sealant on threads, but teflon tape is not recommended, at least by many, since it is so easy to introduce slivers of it into the hydraulic flow circuits, where it can cause malfunctions.
The plug in question is probably where the clear hose is connected on this piston pump.

thanks guys the clear hose here is the place im talking about on mine and this is the same pump on this tractor i have, so im confused now as to what the original is, as these arnt what is pictured inthe owners manuel i have for this tractor, is this pump the original, or is this the replacement style? i'll use something else other than Teflon to reseal, the plug is tight now, already tried to tighten that

The original Jube pump looked like this

Most were replaced with the later piston pump that looks like this

Consider your self lucky, Parts are no longer available for the earlier square vane pump.

That plug that you have leaking is the bleeder plug. Its a taper thread pipe plug. It should seal easily. If not, try the Teflon tape, just keep the tape on the threads, not on the bottom of the plug.

it's a cheap tapered plug.. get a new one. i reccomend a brass square headed one.. that and some gasola, or harveys thread dope. a CI plug will work as well.

that is a repalcement piston pump.. it is cylindrical.. the oem pump was a squareish vane pump.
