THEkyroastnear 12-15-2012 10:32:14 12.74.88.30 Report to Moderator	just installed a carb. kit (zenith) tractor was running but ran rich and would not adjust out. after kit tractor started, ran just a few minutes and quit has not started since .float is working as it should getting fire has fair compression 68-72 but acts as if tries to flood self out will not even try to hit, tried to pull it with no luck either would not even try anybody got any ideas i am stumped. also need to know plug gap,had it wrote down but must have lost it. thanks [Reply]   [No Email]

Never. Redo your test as it can not be accurate. All plugs out, fresh battery and WOT. I don't like hunches. Tell us more how you verified the spark. Old plugs might be fouled etc. You can burn them off in the kitchen stove or use a propane torch. You could have so much fuel in it too that even new plugs might not light it off. THEkyroastnear 12-15-2012 14:29:47 12.74.88.98 Report to Moderator	Re: 2000 3cyl. gas problem in reply to THEkyroastnear, 12-15-2012 10:32:14   there is not really much to tell about the tractor, i have owned it about 2 years it has always started good and worked in a satisfactory way, although i have always known it could stand a kit. what caused me to take it apart was late this summer it developed a gas leak at the carb or so i thought come to find out a fitting was cracked in fuel line so while i had it off thought would be a good time for that kit. i didnt know it would run into more problems. i will check on everything folks told me about and i didnt know what kind of compression it should have had.this my first ford i am more familiar with old Ms or Hs.thanks for the input   [Reply]  [No Email]

The min allowable is probably ~ 90 psi at sea level. Make sure you don"t have a sticking or burnt valves.   [Reply]  [No Email]

As for compression that is very poor compression. even the old 8N needs at a min. of 90PSI to run well and that 2000 should have a good bit more then that. Tell us the whole story behind this old machine and maybe we can help. With what you have said I would first off get a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap. Then I would put say a 1/4 cup ATF in the cylinders and then open the carb back up and make sure the float is set correctly and that the needles seat is tight and that the needle is seating as it should   [Reply]  [No Email]
