Well plowed garden finally sunday and she was strong as heck. I posted last time long ago that it was stalling in 4th while plowing till warmed up. Drove around in 6th which used to just seem to kick out to neutral. So back and forth like an old girlfriend.

Joe - I believe what Tony is saying is that ORC problems will show up the earliest in R1 & 9. He's not saying it won't show in 5th & 6th as well.

I also believe that Tony has had enough experience on SOS and other Ford stuff that I dare not dispute his word on the subject.

Hello Dave , The Over Running Clutch Kit from Ford has been discontinued for many years now and guys like myself who still work on them have bought just about every one left in the US and Canada and all of the Discontinued Warehouses , I only knew of one left in Canada a couple of years ago for $1100 just about what Ford would have sold it for new . Currently I am working on building a new heavier duty Clutch set up to completely replace the Ford unit . The first two experimental units did not work out so well so hopefully number three will be the charm . Thanks Tony

Hello Joe , The Book was written in 1959 when the SOS first came out , the problems were on brand new UNWORN transmissions , now when you compound 50 plus years of wear on them EVERYTHING CHANGES the book only becomes a GUIDE it is no longer the gospel . By the time it shows up in 5th or 6th it no longer even moves in other gears . As I said a high hour worn ORC will show up in R1 first then 9th 99% of the time when cold , then work when hot . After that it only goes downhill and get worse . Thanks Tony

If you get your clutch to work I am interested. I have a 981 that the clutch is out on and would like to fix it. May need one for the 881 as well.

Hello Micah , I know I can get it to work but I am trying to make work better , longer , and stronger than the original did with out breaking the bank so that it will be a worth doing for resale units that I rebuild or someone like your self who needs one for his own tractors . Hopefully over the winter I will get a chance to finish one up and try it out for the spring time . Thanks Tony

(quoted from post at 21:55:32 12/18/12) That's not the way it was stated.

I'm assuming this is aimed as my reply to your previous comment on R1 & 9 being telltale ratios on the ORC.

If so, then I'm wondering what you think the word "telltale" means? I'm interpreting it to mean first indication. Therefore it was stated correctly.
