I recently rebuilt the trans in my Jubilee after it sat for about three years. I cleaned the Hyd reservoir and filled it with new oil. The problem is now the 3 pt won't lift every time I move the control. I looked inside with the engine running and I see a good supply of oil coming into the reservoir but the lift piston doesn't move every time the control is moved. The tractor has the vane style pump. Any help will be much appreciated.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeMay not see much if any leaking oil on the suction side of system, whether it be lines, line seals or the pump shaft seals, since these points on suction side will be low pressure, up to a vacuum & will want to "suck in" air rather than push out oil. In reality, it is the higher atmospheric pressure on the outside that wants to push air into the lower pressure suction side of pump. That is an 'issue' to some people.

Just to clarify... I have not taken anything in the hyd system apart. All I did was clean out the reservoir of years of sludge and added new oil after reinstalling the trans. In doing some additional troubleshooting I think air is getting into the system because looking in the fill hole with the engine running the oil looks foamy. Also with the fill plug installed I forced air into the dipstick tube with the lift lever in the full up position and the system not lifting it immediately lifted the 3 pt. Hope this makes sense and might help to diagnose the problem.

when you had it split, did you replace the 60 year old orings on the hyd plumbing with oem or some out of a multi kit.

hint.. if you say multi kit.. you may have made a mistake.

Jay, I'm no expert on hydraulics, but your Jubilee has a suction tube

that runs from the bottom of the sump up to the bottom of the pump.

(along with a pressure tube) Those tubes have O-rings on each end.

If you have an air leak, you might want to check those O-rings, and

look for a damage or rusted tube.

Originally I rebuild the transmission. When I had the tractor separated I cleaned out the hyd reservoir. I didn't take anything apart in the hyd system. Obviously you have to drain everything and take the tubes off to separate the tractor. After putting everything back together I refilled everything with new oil. The tractor sat for three years and I don't remember how well the 3 pt worked before. Anyway now I'm thinking the O rings on the hyd tubes might be the problem. However there is not even the slightest bit of an oil leak anywhere. But there seems to be air in the system from someplace.

Check on side (I think RH side) of trans/diff area for a lever about 3" long which in one position diables hyds; shifted to other pos'n activates hyds. I don't recall what Jubilees are like but both my Dexta & 5000 have this lever.

those machiens are 100% different than an old 53/54 naa... including the hyd system.

Thanks everybody for the replies. It works sometimes just not every time. So if it's a sticky valve how do I free it up?

check for a sticky unloader valve.

hope you took care to not damage the backpressure valve when taking apart earlier..

Have you primed the pump??? Or maybe one of the pass threw lines is messed up or the linkage if not hooked up correctly. I would prime it first then pull the dip stick inspection plate off and see if you can see something wrong

he said he saw oil moving.. it's not a prime issue.

my guess is a stuck unloader...

Ya I saw he said oil moving but was not sure where he saw it moving since a shaft can make oil move and look like the pump is pumping

only shaft in the hyd compartment in the oil area is the pto.. and on a naa it doesn't need to spin to have hyds.

other is the pinion coupling.. and it's out of the way.. and won't be doing anything while setting still.

I know the NAA/Jubilee well and yes I know the only shaft would be the PTO and it has nothing to do with hyds but then as you know you never know for sure what the guy is doing so that is why I state that

I had the tractor running with the fill plug removed and could see a flow of oil coming into the hyd reservoir. That lead me to believe the pump is working. Isn't this flow of oil indicating the pump is working?
