971 carb settings

I recently acquired a decent old 971,rebuilding everything,having carb issues still,has inline filter which Im gonna try and remove it,an see what happens(doing crazy stuff and runs low on gas if it does start)))I rebuilt carb and I WOULD APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE COULD GIVE ME SETTINGS.Thanks

Start with the 2 adjusting screws (1 on top is Idle, 1 on bottom is Load) each turned out 1.5 turns.

Doesn't the lit you have for rebuilding the carb have instructions???? Most kits will tell you in the instructions what the setting should be to start with. That said as per what the other guy said. As for an in line filter most of the time those cause way more problems then they ever fix

awhtx,Thanks for answering my question.I appreciate it very much.Ive been working on both sides of 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 turns each and playing with it,but just doesnt act right all the time,part of the time its got a lot of gas in carb and then none,got fuel all the way to carb it seems,but I'll throw away the filter as Ive already read from folks on earlier posts about the inline filter problem.THANKS GUYS

can you be any less specific/

'at the carb'

at the fuel bowl to carb connection.

at bowl to head.. line to head.

at carb halves?

carb mouth?

out choke or throttle shaft?

I could have been less specific,but you'd never have figured it out without being there,but it was exactly as stated,FUEL RIGHT UP YO THE CARB,PART TIME GAS SHOOTING OUT INTAKE PORTION OF CARB,AND PART TIME WAS BONE DRY.Got good flow all the way through NOW,got good points now,everything is great now,ended up being a combination of several things.Had GREMLINS at work!

parts list only with basic instructions.It now runs great,but seems to be still running low on supply after a bit.Tossed the filter too.Think I'll just have to take carb and other attached parts off and boil again.Thanks

Befre you open the carb back up try this. Remove the carb drain plug and check for a good steady flow if gas for a few minutes. Catch the gas to look for dirt/rust etc. If you do not have a good steady flow for say 3-5 minutes work your way back to the tank to find where it is clogged

Float set wrong or the needle sticking in the seat. If it is a rubber tipped needle seat then it should also have a spring clip that hooks to the float so it can not stick. Cheap kits will have the rubber tipped needle seat but not the spring

No clip means sticking needle seat and that gives you problems like you have now
