Cerametallic Clutch Disc

I recently read about a heavy duty cerametallic clutch disc for a Ford 3400. Does this clutch disc offer as far superior working life as compared to conventional discs? Can I get a cerametallic disc to fit a Ford 7000???
 
The answer is yes, at the expense of your flywheel and pressure plate. Whenever you slip your clutch, heat is generated, and has to go somewhere. A ceremetallic disc is more tolerant of heat, and can be slipped more. However, that doesn't mean that the flywheel and pressure plate can handle even more of it compared to a rag disc.
 
Cerematellic discs also known as 'button clutches' in general last much longer than typical organic discs under heavy use or abuse. But organic discs wear out while creating minimal damage to the mating flywheel and pressure plate. Ceremetallic discs can remove metal from the pressure plate (and more importantly the flywheel) at nearly the same rate as the clutch itself wears.
It is not impossible for an OEM button clutch to wear out and completely trash the flywheel by the time the original disc is used up.
This type of clutch disc is not my first choice.
 
At first, I didn't know what you were talking about until I looked at the timing of our last two posts. Looks like I beat you by about 30 seconds, but in reality, you beat me at the start since your post was longer. :)
 
I recently had a button clutch rebuilt for a tractor I was putting together to sell.
Had to have the flywheel resurfaced and also had the PP resurfaced/rebuilt.
I reused the button disc as I have seen them new and used and this one was not worn out enough to warrant replacement.
