Has anyone used the carb kit from YT on the MS TXS-580 carb? Do these old 55 year old carbs take a kit rebuild very well? Mine was running fine now i have to choke it according to how much throttle i want. full throttle full choke. screens are all clean. removed the fuel cap incase the vent hole was clogged. tapped the side of the carb. was able to get half throttle with no choke by fully seating the air adj. screw. Trying to decide if i should go kit or new Zenith carb.

I put a new Zenith carb on my 640 6 or so years
ago. I am wondering since I cant find a Zenith
carb kit mentioned, Does a Marvel-Schebler kit
fit a Zenith or are they different??

I agree with Hobo. I got my carb rebuild kit for my '57 600 from YT and was well satisfied. We need to support this site as, in my opinion, it is a wealth of information that you wont get from TSC, O'reilly's or any other parts house. It may be different in other areas but here in SC the parts store employees are mostly clerks not tractor mechanics.

Go with the one on this site its for a tractor and not a basic kit from a auto parts store that leaves out some parts you may need... I find for what auto parts stores want for a basic kit I can get a comprehensive kit for from a tractor parts supplier...

Are look at it this way if you need other parts a auto parts store can not deliver...

You are screwe-d

i've used all different kinds of kits.. most with good results.

I usually leave brass parts alone if the holes look good.. :)

I can not say how good or bad the kits this site has are on that carb. My self I use the Walker brand kits O'Reilly's sells and have had good luck. As for can they be rebuilt well most of them can be I have done so many I can not tell you how many. Things you might try before opening it up is theses things. #1 pull the carb drain plug and let to gas flow for a few minutes/ Catch the gas to look for rust/dirt/water. #2with the drain plug out pull the main jet adjustment needle all the way out and take a can of spray carb clean with the red tube pushed down in to the adjustment needle hole and spray the heck out of it. #3 with the air cleaner tube off and the engine running half throttle put you hand over the air intake and pull it back off fast so as not to kill the engine but by doing this it can/will clean out a minor clog

Thanks Old and Soundguy. I did try all you said except for the hand off and on the air intake while running. i'll check with O'rieley's and napa for a kit and give it a try. They sell the new Zenith if the rebuild goes afoul. All my auto carb rebuilds went to the scrap pile and bought a new or rebuilt carb but this TSX-580 doesn't look too complicated providing the internals aren't all pitted up where new parts go.

The tractor carbs are very simple and so simple that people make them hard. You do need a bucket of carb cleaner to soak the carb in for 24 hours or so compressed air to blow it out a couple cans of spray carb cleaner and a small wire or what I use it a torch tip cleaner tool to poke into the passage ways to make sure all are open as the need to be. The Walker kits have good instruction and a picture of all the parts

Basic carb rebuild kit from YT seemed to do the trick.Soaked the disassembled carb in pine-sol for 4 days then hot water bath, blow dry and reassembled.New fuel line and shut-off and new 1 wire alternator to finish up the 12v conversion. Going to tackle the PTO seal now so i don"t have to keep a drip pan under the Diffy. None of the parts stores in my area of SW Mo. had a kit that said it was for a TSX-580 carb. It showed for 4 or 5 TSX models but not the 580.
