Did Ford build a 4000 4-cylinder industrial version with a torque converter drive? I bought the rear end of a tractor and am trying to identify it. The clutch pedal has a rod connected to a small hydraulic valve on the side of the clutch housing. I need to try and identify what model this was.

A friend here in NH has 600 with a Torque converter. It was originally an airport tug.

The model number should be on top of the flat spot that faces up on the bell housing, up near the very front of the transmission housing. If it was a 4 cylinder it will be on the flat spot on the left side (when you're sitting on the tractor facing forward). If it was a 3 cylinder tractor it will be on the right side, but will also most likely have a number on the left side as well. These will not be raised casting numbers, they will be recessed numbers that were stamped into the metal . Post any numbers that you find in either of those 2 spots.

They built Airport Tugs with a torque converter but they were 2000 series with the 134 cu in engine. Do you have the transmission to look for the Model and Serial Numbers?

I know of a forklift with a 134 engine and TC driven transmission.
