Notsofastfreddie 10-29-2012 18:23:21 65.101.217.59 Report to Moderator	I have a 1969 Ford TLB that will not start, even with ether. Replaced fuel filter, primed but no fire. Jumped battery with diesel truck, and used ether but still no fire. Checked shutoff cable on pump, is against stop. Tractor has been sitting about a year. Did not run well then. I'm stumped. Will try taking the cover off next week. Is there anything I have to worry about flying off when the cover comes off? Ultradog MN 10-30-2012 08:28:24 184.100.104.240 Report to Moderator	Re: ford 4500 tlb no start in reply to Notsofastfreddie, 10-29-2012 18:23:21   I am not so good with injector pumps so others here will correct me if I get some of the terminology wrong. If you open the top cover on the pump you will see the shut off shaft #4 moves the shut off bar #3. The shut off bar in turn moves the metering valve #10. Twice now on two different pumps the metering valve was stuck. I had to open the top cover and free it up. It is all very delicate in there so you want to tread lightly. Once the pump had only been sitting for a year and another time it had sat for many years. Both times I was able to open the cover and free up the metering valve and the tractor started right up after that. [Reply]  [No Email]

Not to rub it in, but it was 70 degrees here in CO yesterday. There is very little fuel squirting out at the injector lines. With the truck tied to the battery, it seems to be spinning ok. What I don't get is that spraying ether directly into the manifold does not get any reaction, violent or otherwise. Hate to spend $$ on a new pump when the engine is shot. I'd try some more...mabey a 2-3 second shot while cranking aand see if it stumbles some. If it doesn't, try some more. If it won't try on a steady shot while cranking for 5-10 seconds then I'd say you have no compression Rod [Reply]  [No Email]

Is it cranking fast enough? Is the thermostart injector working? Mine won't start without it in cooler weather. Jim [Reply]  [No Email]
