Practically speaking: Best battery for a '68 F3000 gas??

Looking for some practical input on what battery (CCA)type, works best in your situation on a 1968 Ford 3000 gas. Currently has a 800 CCA regular car battery in it, but it needs to be replaced. Just wondering if I should go with the factory recommended, a 4dlt, a hd diesel pick-up battery, or....??
Will be parked in an open shed. Will see some use in winter and spring, but mostly in summer and fall.
Thanks for all input and experiences!!.

I use this rule of thumb on most cars trucks and tractors. I buy the biggest largest CCA battery that will fit and found by doing so you have a battery that most of the time is over kill which can be a good thing when it is 0 out and you need the tractor to start up right then and there or the car or truck. Of course in theory where you live it does not get all that cold but one never knows the way the weather has been the last 10 years or so LOL

being your starting a 3 cy engine with a ford 4 cyl starter...

the most cranking amps for the money would be a much better way. Your tractor will start on most any battery, so as consumer digest says.. most cca for the cheapest price will do.

however if your starting it in sub zero weather, or letting it sit in a field for 8 months a bigger battery might be justify the additonal expense.

either way, the battery will last about the same amout of time.. so again cheapest battery with the highest cca will do fine. a car battery with high cca at half the price of the 4dlt will probably last as long.

I'm a fan of the red top optima batteries (AGM). They do not outgas and therefore no corrosion on battery terminals or cables. They are gel glass matt and not subject to vibration damage like conventional battery. Worth the $140 cost for the benefits in my opinion. I know they make something in the range of 920 or so as well as the 8xx CCA range.

17tf is the correct one for a gasser. It would be better to stay with an industrial type of battery due to vibration.... But many modest sized auto batteries have been known to work. Watch the hood height tho....
