Ford 5000 clutch allignment tool

Replacing the clutch in a 67 5000. Bought a clutch kit from this site. The allignment tool that came with the kit does not work. It has a 21 spline that goes into the PTO drive plate and its larger in diameter. My PTO drive plate is 15 spline and clutch is 25 spline. Call the site parts and the short of it is they dont make one and can find one from any of there sources. I'll start looking on my own but thought I might save time by asking if any of you have run into the same problem and if so where did you find the alligning tool or how you resolved the problem.

The alignment tool does not need to mesh with the splines in the clutch discs. As long as it fits reasonably tight in the hole it will still do its job. If you have access to a lathe you can spin the alignment tool (I'm assuming its plastic) and file the splines down until the tool will fit through the center hole. If the tool is too small in diameter you can wrap duct tape around it to make it larger. It's not a precision tool- "close enough for government work" will suffice.

Thanks, that was my thought. When I measured the ID of the PTO drivr plate I came up with .850 so thats like a 1/4 I'll need to cut off the diameter. I just thought there might be something easier/less complicated. Would think with as many tractors there would still be something available

I have posted multiple times that alignment tools are over-rated. All you need to do is get it close and put the bolts in with slight pressure, just enough to hold the disc in there. The you can just line it up by eye. Bern uses his fingers I use a screwdriver. I have done a double disc clutch this way. no big deal.

To clarify, I center the OD of the disc relative to the OD of the pressure plate friction drive surface. I don't try and center the disc's drive hub with my fingers.

Give it the ole hairy eyeball... I never use an alignment tool. Sight will get you close enough on a single disc clutch.
