lrry65.........ALL 9N/2N's need 5-gals of 90wt gear oil. GL-1 is close approximation. Drain the small diffy square plug first, 'cuz it'll pee with some accuracy. Then drain the 3"-tranny plug, and finally the 3"-hydropump pan. Do NOT try to drain the corner pressure test port, it is only worth about 4-oz of oil. Slowly fill by the tranny shifter. Many gitt WATER in from the BIG coil spring under yer butt-buckett, turns the oil GREY. ALL 3-speed 9N's came from the factory solid grey; variously called battleship grey, forest grey, industrial grey. It was the BEST cheap paint Ford could spray. In 1947, Ford came out with the 4-speed red belly 8N. Many thought that was purdy and dealers would re-paint the 9N/2N's redbelly with lite gray sheetmetal 'cuz it re-sold better. Its yer tractor, paint it enny color that pleases you. ........Dell, yer 20/20 painter (looks good at 20ft or 20mph) |
