960 fuel shut off valve

I need to replace the fuel shut off valve on my Ford 960 which had a lever type when I purchased it. It has developed a leak and I would like a screw in type but the only thing that I can find is a screw in type for tractors up to SN 126524. My tractor is stamped 960-1 with SN 127417 and am uncertain what type of fuel shut off valve was original to the tractor. Any help on what should be used would be appreciated.

The fuel shutoff valves that I have seen available seem to be either the screw type for 1/4 inch line or the flip-type (lever) for 5/16 inch line. Your tractor should be a '57 which I had thought was 1/4 inch originally, but I'm not positive about that.
Do you know which size the fuel line fitting is at the valve end? Sometimes over the years, owners have changed the fuel lines to all sorts of homemade setups and especially lately since new ones from CNH are so expensive.

I have the valve with me and the opening for the fuel line measures about 1/2 inch and it might actually be 7/16 inch.

The sizes I referred to (1/4" and 5/16") refer to the size of the line, not of the threaded fitting.

Maybe the best thing would be to take your valve to an auto parts store and check to see what size brake line fitting screws in. These have flare fittings just like fuel line. Then you would know what valve to buy based on the size of the existing line. Be careful when you buy the valve to match the size unless you want to put in a new line or reducer.
Both styles of valve will bolt into the tank interchangeably.

It sounds as if your tractor has been converted to the later design lever type valve, line sediment bulb and maybe carburetor.

If so, you will need to change the line and perhaps sediment bulb and banjo bolt to change back to the screw type valve.

ditto what's been said about the line.

if the line is already cobbled or home made.. you could swap tot he screw in then union with an adapter.

The reference to SN 126524 relates to the 801/901 series tractors. At that point Ford put a larger carb and new manifold on the 172 engine. The new carb required a 5/16" fuel line (the previous carbs used a 1/4" line). When they changed to the 5/16" line they also added the new lever style shutoff.

Just as a learning question...when a model is phased out and a new one introduced would there be the chance that some cross-over features occur, ie, new features for a new model put on to some of the last units of the phased out model?

I own an 851, SN 1002, the second tractor built in the X01 series. Another forum member, Andy Wickiser, owns an 840, SN 144875, the last known tractor in the X00 series. My 851 has all of the "new" features of the X01 series and Andy's 840 has none of the new X01 features.

Just plumb a ball valve in line. It whose costing $50 a year for new valves. It hasn’t cost be anything for years since.

sorry for the slow reply...I appreciate the feedback. After some research I sometimes think that I have a few features of a 901 series but not.
